Front Cover Draft: 27/02/2014

This is my final Front Cover.

These are my layers:

Front Cover and Double Page Spread: 27/02/14

I added my image to my double page spread, creating a gradient background to give the page more depth - as opposed to having a block colour. I also added in a drop shadow to the right side of the image.

After I had edited my image, I copied it into my front cover document and positioned it so that the album cover was still on show and that my model's face wasn't hidden behind any text.

I created some coverlines by adding text to background shapes.

I created a bottom bar to fill the space at the bottom of the front cover.

I combined the layers for the shapes and text for each coverline.

Photo Choices

These are my Photo choices.

Editing Photos: 25/02/14

I decided which photos I was going to use for my double page spread and front cover and edited them on photoshop.
I separated the image of my friend from the background using the magnetic lasso tool and using the refine edge tool to smooth the areas around the hair. After doing so, I increased the vibrancy of the image to make the colours stand out - making the album cover brighter so it is clear what the album is. I also airbrushed the photo, adding "makeup" to my model using the paint brush tool and altering the effect it leaves so it looks more like makeup. I combined all the airbrushed layers to the original layer to create the final photo.

I separated the image from the background by using the magnetic lasso tool, refining the edges to smooth out the area where the hair is. I increased the vibrancy to make the hair of my model stand out. Like the image for my front cover, I airbrushed the photo and added in some "makeup" style effects in order to make the photos look more professional.

Photos: 19/02/14

I emailed my teacher in order to book the Photography studio on 19th February.

These are the photos that I took:

I encountered trouble with the lighting as there was only one light available - when I decide which photos to use I will edit the photos to correct the lighting.

Front Cover: 18/02/14

I added in a grey background to my masthead.

I combined the layers for the masthead and the background colour

I found a barcode on google images and saved it. When I opened it in Photoshop, I changed the image resolution to 300 and altered the image size to 4cm high and 2cm wide. After doing this I copied the barcode into my front cover Photoshop document and placed it where I wanted it.

I added in some text to show the price of the magazine and placed it on top of the barcode. I combined the text and image layers in order to complete my barcode.

I also combined the layers of the text, stars and background for my skyline.

This is my front cover so far.

Front Cover Update: 13/02/14

I added more text to my main Coverline. I used the same colours as the first part of my Coverline. I combined text with a white background by combining the layers.

I combined a pink background with my main Coverline through combining the layers. I combined the above two layers to create the final Coverline.

Colour Palette

This is my colour palette for my magazine. I decided to use limited bright colours as my magazine is aimed at audiences aged 14 and above - this means that they don't need bright colours to make them want the magazine. I chose basic colours linked with the rock industry - Red, Black, White, Grey, etc - however, I specifically chose Pink as my cover artist is the singer of an all girl rock band - I used the colour Pink to emphasize this.
